Home Tips #3: What lurks under your sink?

What lurks under your sink?
IT MATTERS what you store under your sinks.
DO store things that you will need to grab on a daily or (at minimum) weekly basis.
DO store items that are not water absorbent and will allow you to notice if there is a leak under your sink.
DO NOT store items that are absorbent like towels or toilet paper.   Look what happens when you don’t notice you have a leak!!

I read a sad article today.  In Orange County, FL a home fire started when a resident left a candle unattended.  Two people died.  Last week driving through a subdivision in Lake Mary, FL, I saw the effects of a fire that started when a plug in heater was left unattended.  Three units were damaged and have been uninhabitable for over 6 months.  We never think this can happen to us or our neighbors, so many times we don’t realize how important smoke detectors are.  Whether you own your home or rent it, please make sure the smoke detectors are working properly.  They can save lives.

I’ve been a Florida realtor since 2001. The most important lesson that I’ve learned for sure is that every year the market changes. There are always indicators that lead us to believe certain conditions will dictate the future but it can change as fast as a New England winter.

My first big lesson happened a few months after I earned my license to sell real estate. Our country was shocked by the tragedy of 9/11. Business came to a standstill. Like most people I didn’t know what to expect. I got a few calls from people that wanted to move closer to their families. My job was to help them and I found my role in the changing market.
